The web pages on this site meet the following standards, except for older lists of cases.
- The pages are WCAG AA approved, complying with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- The pages comply with most priority 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- The pages use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for page titles, and H2 tags for section headings within a page.

Document formats
- Where possible, all information on this site is provided in HTML format. However, some classes of older documents are available in Word format only, and the documents are not formatted in an accessible way.
- All Board Directions, Board Orders, and Inspectors Reports up to 30th September 2007 are available in Word format only. From 1st October 2007, these will be published in accessible HTML format.
- Older publications such as Annual Reports prior to 2007 are available in PDF format only. All future reports will be published in HTML and accessible PDF format.
- Please contact the Access Officer if you require any document that is not available in a format accessible to you.
Access keys
Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. On Windows, you can press <Alt> + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press <Control> + an access key. When using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you must press <Return> after entering the access key, e.g. <Alt>+1+<Return> to return to the website Home page.
All pages on this site define the following access keys:
- Access key 1 - Home page
- Access key 8 - Search
- Access key 9 - Skip to content
Visual design
- This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- All font sizes are relative, and can be increased using the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
Metadata
- Each page contains meta-data compliant with the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, according to the Irish Public Sector Metadata Standard (IPSMS) profile.
