Liam McGree
Planning Commissioner
Liam McGree was appointed an ordinary Board member on the 2nd of September 2024 to the 1st of September 2029.
In accordance with section 495(5) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, any Board member of An Bord Pleanála in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, continue in office as an ordinary planning commissioner of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his or her appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
He joins An Bord Pleanála from Waterford City and County Council, where he held the position of Senior Planner from October 2019 to present. Liam also worked as a Senior Planner with Kildare County Council, the Southern Regional Assembly, the South East Regional Assembly and as a Senior Executive Planner in Carlow County Council.
From April 2004 to February 2016, Liam was self-employed as a Planning and Development Consultant. During this period Liam lead a project management and multi-disciplinary team, responsible for co-ordination of complex large scale planning applications, environmental impact assessments, planning appeals and development plan submissions. Liam was regularly engaged as an expert witness in Compulsory Purchase Order cases, planning enforcement cases, civil litigation and judicial reviews.
