Marie O’Connor was appointed ordinary Board member on the 16th of September 2024 to the 15th of September 2029. 
In accordance with section 495(5) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, any Board member of An Bord Pleanála in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, continue in office as an ordinary planning commissioner of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his or her appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
She joins An Bord Pleanála from the Environmental Protection Agency where she has held various leadership roles since joining as an inspector in 1995 including as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. From April 2019, as the Environmental Licensing Programme Manager, Marie has managed the delivery of decisions on environmental licence/permit applications across a range of sectors such as large scale industrial, energy, agricultural, municipal wastewater treatment and marine discharges.
She holds primary and post graduate degrees in Industrial Chemistry (UL), a masters in Environmental and Natural Resources law (UCC) and an advanced diploma in Planning and Environmental law (King’s Inns).
