Mary Gurrie
Deputy Chief Planning Commissioner
Mary Gurrie was appointed Deputy Chief Planning Commissioner on 8 June 2026 for a five-year term. Mary joined An Coimisiún Pleanála (then An Bord Pleanála) as an Ordinary Board Member in September 2024, before transitioning to the role of Planning Commissioner in June 2025. Mary previously worked with the Environmental Protection Agency where she held a range of roles, including managing the Water Management Programme, with overall responsibility for national water quality monitoring, assessment, and reporting and the Industrial Licence Enforcement Programme, overseeing the environmental regulation of large scale industrial and waste facilities. Mary holds a B.Sc. in Applied Science (Chemistry and Maths), and Post-Graduate Diplomas in Environmental Engineering, Conflict and Dispute Resolution, and Organisational Development and Transformation.
In accordance with section 495(5) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, any Board member of An Bord Pleanála in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, continue in office as an ordinary planning commissioner of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his or her appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
