Patricia Calleary, BE MEngSc Msc (planning) Dip EIA Mgmt. FIEI MIPI, was appointed ordinary Board member from the 21st of March 2022 for a 5 year term until the 21st of March 2027.
In accordance with section 495(5) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, any Board member of An Bord Pleanála in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, continue in office as an ordinary planning commissioner of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his or her appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
She holds a primary and postgraduate degrees in civil engineering (NUIG), spatial planning (TUD), and also holds postgraduate diplomas in EIA management, public management and in planning and environmental law. She is a chartered engineer and fellow of Engineers Ireland and is also a member of the IPI, having served on the IPI National Council for a three-year term.
Prior to her appointment to the Board, Patricia worked as a senior planning inspector at An Bord Pleanála from 2016 - 2022, and previously worked in a number of roles in Dublin City Council, Irish Water and Bord na Móna. For a large part of her career, she ran a planning and engineering consultancy practice in Ballina, County Mayo and has held various part-time lecturing roles.
