Peter Mullan
Chief Executive Officer
Peter Mullan was appointed Chairperson of An Bord Pleanála on the 23rd of January 2024 for a term of seven years to the 22nd of January 2031.
He was first appointed as a temporary Board member in January 2023 and was appointed to the role of interim chairperson in September 2023.
In accordance with section 495(4) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, the Chairperson in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act of 2024 on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, stand appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act of 2000.
A solicitor by profession he joined the public service in 2012 following almost 20 years in private practice as a solicitor specialising in criminal law and litigation.
Peter joined An Bord Pleanála from the Courts Service where he was an Assistant Secretary, having responsibility for Circuit and District Courts Operations since 2018.
Prior to that, he was Assistant Secretary in the Department of Justice and Equality for a number of years and Chief Prosecution Solicitor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, his first role in the Public Service.
