Mary Keane is a qualified barrister who worked as a Senior Executive with the Law Society of Ireland for 30 years, retiring as Director General in June 2022. Her areas of expertise include policy formulation, strategic communications and regulatory compliance. Mary was a Board member and Chair of the Board of Governors & Guardians of the National Gallery of Ireland, concluding her two five-year terms of office on 1 July 2024. She is an Independent Non-Executive Director with FBD Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Advisory Board of Tailte Éireann. Mary was a Director of a registered legal charity - Irish Rule of Law International - for 10 years, an external member of the Audit Committee of the Office of the DPP and a member of the National Safeguarding Committee (an inter-sectoral Committee established by the HSE to collaborate on safeguarding vulnerable adults and a precursor to Safeguarding Ireland).

Mary holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) Degree from UCD, a degree as Barrister-at-Law (BL) from the Honourable Society of King’s Inns and was presented with an Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession by the Attorney General on behalf of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association in 2023.
