Mary Henchy was appointed interim Board member on the 17th of April 2023 for a one year term, an extension to the term had been granted to the 16th of October 2024. 
In accordance with section 495(5) of the Planning and Development Act 2024, any Board member of An Bord Pleanála in office immediately before the date of commencement of this section of the Act on 17 June 2025, shall on and from this date, continue in office as an ordinary planning commissioner of An Coimisiún Pleanála, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his or her appointment, as in force immediately before that date, under the Planning and Development Act 2000.
On the 2nd of September 2024 she was appointed an ordinary Board member to the 1st of September 2029.
Prior to her position with An Bord Pleanála, she was a Director of Service, a post held since 2015 in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. During her time as a Director of Service, she had responsibility for economic development, organisational change and planning. 
Mary has over 30 years’ experience working in the local authority sector starting her career in planning. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, a Master’s Degree in Regional and Urban Planning, a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Engineering, and Diplomas in Management, and Employment Law.
Mary is a member of the Irish Planning Institute.
